How it works

Three taps to fully connected.

From parking lot to first chair, getting your group on the same channel takes about as long as buckling your boots.

1

Add your crew

Search by username or send an invite link. Build your friend list once and you're set forever.

2

Start a session

Pick who's riding today, choose always-on or push-to-talk, and tap start. Friends get a notification to join.

3

Drop your phone in your pocket

Audio runs through your earbuds. Music keeps playing. Voice cuts through. You'll forget the phone is even there.

Built for the mountain

Made for how people actually ride.

Voice channels

Like Discord. For your boots.

Hop into a channel with your group at the start of the day. Hear each other on the chairlift, on the run, in the lift line. The kind of constant low-key chatter that makes a day with friends actually feel like one.

Up to eight people per channel. No app to keep open, no number to dial.

Music coexistence

Your music keeps playing. Always.

Spotify, Apple Music, whatever. PowderChat sits underneath your music, ducking gently when someone talks and coming back when they're done. Like having a friend riding next to you, mid-song.

No switching apps, no pausing playback, no compromise.

Push to talk

For when the wind picks up.

Always-on is great on the lift. On the runs, switch to push-to-talk so the wind doesn't drown everyone out. One tap on your earbuds or a volume button — your phone never leaves your pocket.

Each channel can mix modes too. Set it however your day flows.

Hold to talk
From the mountain

The crew is hyped.

Early reactions from skiers and riders we've talked to. Honest, unedited, exactly what we wanted to hear.

My buddies and I tried walkie-talkies last year and they were a nightmare. This is what we actually wanted.

Half the day is just looking for each other at the bottom of the run. If this fixes that, take my money.

Skiing with my friends but having music going at the same time? That's the whole vibe right there.

Questions

The obvious ones.

We're aiming for a closed beta in fall 2026, in time for the 2026/27 ski season. Waitlist members get first access — we'll be inviting people in waves starting from the mountains where we have the most signups, so tell your crew.
PowderChat needs a data connection to work, like any voice app. Most modern resorts have decent coverage on lifts and main runs, but dead zones happen. The app reconnects automatically when you're back in service.
Phone calls don't work for groups, and they hijack your phone. Discord works fine for gaming but isn't designed for skiing — wind noise, gloves, helmets, lock-screen controls, push-to-talk on real buttons. PowderChat is built for the mountain from the ground up.
Nope. Any iPhone or Android phone, plus the earbuds or helmet speakers you already use. Bluetooth earbuds (AirPods, etc.), wired headphones, and helmet audio inserts all work fine.
Real talk: a long day with active voice chat will drain your phone faster than a closed app. We're optimizing aggressively for battery, but bringing a small power bank is a good idea — same as you would for a day of GPS or photos. Cold weather is the bigger battery killer than the app itself.
Yes, free for everyone in the v1 beta. We may add a premium tier later for things like longer sessions or larger groups, but the core experience — talking to your friends while you ride — will always be free.
